Summer 2012 Starts 30 May 2012

SCORECARDS So the TABLES are as accurate as possible could team captains please make sure a scorecard is completed by both the home and away team for each match and posted to me as soon as possible (ie the next day but no later than Friday). 


RESULTS Whenever possible please could CAPTAINS text or Email me the result of the match on the night of the game.

POSTPONEMENTS ‘Permission’ for a Postponement WILL NOT be granted if your team is unable to field a side because your short on players. Its teams responsibility when entering a team that you can fulfill the fixtures. Failure to complete all your fixtures may result in removal from the League.  If you are unable to field a side on the scheduled match day because your team is short of players then your team will forfeit the match. The win will be awarded to your opponents 15-0 and a 2 point deduction will be made from your league points total.

I would like to thank all team captains and players who email or text results to me.

LAYZELLS Spring Cup 2012
Sunday 15 April 2012 @ Layzells
'Norris Springs up to the Challenge' 

Dave NORRIS won the Layzells Spring Challenge 2012 title to his list on Sunday held at Layzells Tavern.  This was his first competition win in 9 years. A field of 37 entries all returning players 27 of which play in the current Premier League and 21 entries from the current top 32 Island Ranked Players. 

Preliminary Round

There were 5 matches to play. The Closest matches were between Premiership players Dan Sutton and Paul Newell 4-3 and host Trev Layzell and son Matt Layzells 3-4. Mick Fletcher and Ian Butcher went to a final from with Mick winning 4 - 3.

1st Round

3 of the 16 matches needed to be decided on the final frame. 

Lasts 16 

In the last 16 saw 2 close matches between Tony Gray and Jamie O'Donnell 3-4.  progress to the Quater Finals 

Quarter Finals 

With 5 Premier League Players against 3 Lower League players it looked like the writing was on the wall.  It was with all matches going in favour of Premier League players except for Dave Norris.  Aaron turn round his match againstr Phil Blanchard to win 5-3. Matt Champ was unable to tame Paul Rogers but still lept to #69 in the rankings for his efforts.

Semi Finals

Halfway Houses players battled it out and Aaron beat Tony Gray Jr 5 - 2 and Dave Norris beat Tom King winner Paul Rogers 5 - 2 to set up a final with Aaron. 

The FINAL

The rankings and league position would suggest that Aaron was the favorite.  Aaron currently leadin the Premier averages and Dave currrently leading Division 1 Averages.  The payers went down to the line with Aaron to putting up a good fight winning 5 frames but it ended 6-5 to Dave and he walked away with £150. Aaron was disappointed to lose but seemed pleased with his £80 runners up Prize money.

Plate 

George Mall won £60 with a field of 12 Players who took part.

The £5 discount for players outside the top 32 will continue for the next competition.

The TOM KING CUP 2012

@ Layzells Sunday 4th March 2012

'There is No Doubt - When Dodge is About' 

Paul ROGERS added the Tom King Cup 2012 title to his list on Sunday held at Layzells Tavern.  A field of 37 entries all returning players 29 of which play in the current Premier League and 21 entries from the current top 32 Island Ranked Players. 

Preliminary Round

There were 5 matches to play and most matches ended up being one sided affairs. The Closest matches were between Premiership players Paul Davey and Dean Hogben 3-4 and host Trev Layzell and Tony Marshall 3-4.

1st Round

5 of the 16 matches needed to be decided on the final frame. 

Lasts 16 

In the last 16 saw 2 close matches between Jamie Hill and Tony Gray 3-4 and Danny Harris and Tony Marshall 4-3 to progress to the Quater Finals 

Quarter Finals 

The Cosy Nore were dominating the line up with 5 of the 8 Quarter finalists playing for the currently 3rd placed Premier League team.   Jamie O'Donnell, Steve Cressey, Danny Harris and Paul Rogers and all progressed to the Semi final.  During the Malc and Dodge match in frame 2 the power went and they finished the frame in darkness before moving into the light.  Maybe this was one of Malcs tactics of progressing to the final. 

Semi Finals

Teammates battled it out and Paul Rogers beat 1st time Semi Finalist and returning after a 2 year break Steve Cressey 5 - 2.  Jamie O'Donnell dispatched Danny Harris 5 - 3. 

The FINAL

On paper the favorite was Paul Rogers with a higher ranking with an international pool playing pedigree with too many titles to mention. Jamie on the other hand was still seeking his 1st Island Knockout win.  Jamie managed to put up a good fight winning 2 frames but it ended 6-2 to Paul and he walked away with £150. Jamie seemed pleased with his £80 runners up Prize money.

Plate 

Dave Goldsmith got revenge on his dispatch in the Preliminary Round as soon as possible by beating Dave Norris 4-1. (5 all on the day).  He won £80 with a field of 16 Players who took part.

The £5 discount for players outside the top 32 will continue for the next competition.
However Steve Cressey ranking has now increased to 21 and is no longer entitled to the £5 discount . Steve Bird dropped out of the top 32 so he can still take advantage of the discount.

Pool Competition @ Layzells
Wednesday 1 February 2012 

With 24 Entries Started at 7.30pm with best of 3 

'R E B U Y S' 

Players Knocked out in Round 1 could rebuy £5 to fill one of the Byes.  5 players took advantage of this option but none progressed any further!

The final finished at 11.30pm.

24 entries £170 prize fund. 


Finalists Classic B Winner Gary KINGSNORTH against Christmas Cup Winner Jamie HILL. 















Well done Gary Kingsnorth on winning 3 - 2 and adding £100.oo to his prize total.

The IoSPL Classic 2012 Sunday 29th January 2012

ROGERS ROMPS HOME 

The Sheppey Pool League's annual invitational competition, The Classic, was held at Halfway House this year with the top seeds, Tony GRAY and Paul ROGERS meeting in the final.

Tony carrying a shoulder injury played well to reach the final.  It was Paul who won the event, by defeating his opponent by 6 frames to 0 to win.

Earlier on in the day, Tony defeated stand in player Martin Edwards 4-0, then had closer matches with Tony Gray Jr 4-3 and Ade Horn 5-4 to set up the final clash.

Paul had defeated Keith Rogers (62) the oldest ever competitor to win a frame in the Classic 4-1, Trevor Layzell 4-0 and semi-finalist Jamie O'Donnell 5-4.   

It was Pauls day as he took the £100 first prize.

The Classic B was once again  a popular choice for other pool players with 16 entries.  In the end Jock CONNOR and Gary KINGSNORTH reached the final where Gary KINGSNORTH won 5-1 and took the £50 first prize.
