DECEMBER 2011

If the league organiser or committee becomes aware that a signed scorecard has been altered after a match has been played to improve a players playing average. The team captain and player(s) involved will have 20 points deducted from their playing average.  Captains should ensure that this does not happen.

To help avoid any discrepancies I remind team captains to ensure that 2 scorecards are completed.

Gary Buttfield

====================================================================================

SCORECARDS So the TABLES are as accurate as possible could team captains please make sure a scorecard is completed by both the home and away team for each match and posted to me as soon as possible (ie the next day but no later than Friday).

The 2011 Christmas Cup

4 December 2011

Jamie HILL said winning the Christmas Cup his first ranking final was "one of his greatest accomplishments".

The Island number 6 beat Paul Rogers to end his year with victory at the 8 Ball Pool Christmas Cup Ranking event.

"It feels very special indeed," said Hill, 30. "I know it's one of my greatest accomplishments. It was the strongest finish to a season I've ever had in my career."

"Right now I'm happy the year is over," said Hill, "It has been long and it has been gruelling, but I'm really excited for next year - I'm upbeat about what's to come."

A great start to the final, at 3-1 Hill looked on course for a routine victory over third seed Rogers. But Rogers the masterful cueman came back to 3 all. However, Hill came through strongly in the 10th frame and cleared the table from the break to collect his 1st title in his pool playing career.

"The relief was amazing," stated the Ship on Shore Captain. "Dodge played well. Could I have won it easier? I guess; I had it in my hands. "I had to go through the day but eventually I made it, which probably felt even better. The joy was great."

IMAG2140.jpg

A top quality field of 33 players entered, with notable matches betwen Aaron Armstrong and Wayne Brett which Aaron won 4-3 after trailing by 3.  Also Dan Sutton potted his way to the 2nd round by beating Tony Gray 4-3.

In the Plate the final was between Wayne Brett beat Marc Stacey with Wayne taking the £80 prize fund.

The Gannons Halfway House Pool Competition WINNER CHRIS WHITE

'THE ONLY WAY IS WHITE'

A new venue and Chris WHITE won the 1st Gannons Halfway House Pool Competition on Sunday held at The Halfway House.  A field of 29 entries battled it out for the for the £390 prize fund

1st Round
The top half of the draw saw 9 Premier League Players and the bottom half had 7 so again another very even spread of ability players.  Tony Gray Jr returned after a break from Island pool and easily dispatched Gary Buttfield 4-0 in the 1st round.   Some of the closest matches in the 1st Round were the 2 highest ranked players who were drawn against each other Jamie Hill and Chris White with White progressing 4-3.  Justin Adams and 1st Time competition entrant Jason Collingridge also needed a final frame.  It was Justin who won 4-3 to move to the last 16.

Lasts 16
In the last 16 saw all higher ranked players in each match comfortably progressing to the Quarter finals without to much trouble.  However the closer ranked players needed a final frame decider.  Justin Adams and Aaron Armstrong took their matches down to the wire before both progressing.  By now Justin had played the maximum 14 Frames and was making sure he got as much pool as possible for his Entry fee.

All losers to this point were entitled to enter the £50 Plate Competition which this started at 4.30pm.  10 players out of a possible 21 decided to take part.  Paul 'BUZZ' Ballard of the Nore was victorious dazzling Jamie Hill 2-1 in the final.

Quarter Finals
The Winners all appeared to be hitting form at about the right time and these matches were won by a comfortable margin.  Kurt Morris, Aaron Armstrong ,Charlie Minta and Gary Kingsnorth vacated the competition at this stage taking £10 each in prize money and 5 Ranking points.

Semi Finals
Ex Team Mates Chris White and Tony Gray battled it out with Chris winning 5-2.  In the other semi which was not normal semi finalists Justin Adams and Marc Stacey with Marc winning 5 2 after Justin rattled the black.  Tony and Justin took £54 and 10 ranking points each.

The FINAL

Between Chris WHITE and Marc STACY who jumped from 148 in the rankings list to 33 for his efforts.  He is also entitled to free entry to the Sheppey Open for being the player with the lowest ranking who progressed the furthest. Chris had reached top form and won 6-1.  Marc to £70 and Chris walked away with £140 1st prize.

Thanks to all that attended, and to Halfway House for providing the sponsorship. Thanks to Shaun Rowe for all his efforts in making sure the tables were set up in what is a superb venue and will be surely be used for future competitions.

The Nore Singles League Round up !!

The second Singles League was a successfull one With many players taking part, Dave Norris managed to win Group A with a number of convincing wins, leaving Shaun Backett in Second place, both winning a place through to Sunday's Finals. They will both be joined by Charlie 'The Unstopable' Minta as he eased his way into the final and is currently unbeaten, While second place was a tight affair with 3 players tied on points and only frame difference to seperate them.  Ian Butcher managed to snatch the second place spot from Lee McCall. Their frame diference was tied and so qualification into the semi final came down to their previous match. This left Lee in third position.
Sunday's semi finals started at 6pm with the final taking place straight after.
Shaun Backett  0 vs 5  Charlie Minta
Dave Norris    5 vs 1  Ian Butcher

3rd & 4th PLACE PLAYOFF:

Shaun Backett  4 vs 5  Ian Butcher

FINAL:

Sittingbourne Snooker Club was the venue for the first ever Kingsferry Cup - a Ryder Cup style Pool match between Sittingbourne and Sheppey. With the best 8 players from each region going head to head, is always going to be a close affair, but it was the slight underdogs from Sittingbourne that came up trumps in the end, winning by 13 matches to 11 in a nail-biting finish.

Sittingbourne took the honours - just - and no doubt both teams will be looking forward to a re-match in the near future. I'm sure the Sheppey team will be extra determined to get revenge when the next instalment is played out on their own patch.

Thanks to all at Sittingbourne Snooker club for hosting, and to all players for a fine event.
Teams :

Sittingbourne : Ade Horn (cap), Adam Brown, Kris Forshaw, Tom Godbold, Darrel Lumby, Martyn Lumby, Lee Mitchell, David Norris.

Sheppey : Charlie Minta (cap), Aaron Armstrong, Wayne Brett, Tony Gray, Troy Millward, Jamie O'Donnell, Paul Rogers, Chris White.
